Ascott Electronic Doorkeepers, Timer and Sliding Gate Instructions
Please read all of these instructions before fitting
DO NOT FIT THE BATTERIES UNTIL THE DOORKEEPER IS INSTALLED
SLIDING GATE HS.
Doorkeepers are intended to be used with a vertical sliding gate, (max. 3 kg) mount this before installing the doorkeeper. Ensure the gate runs smoothly without catching on its runners. WARNING Do not allow to the gate to freeze in winter.
OUTDOOR KEEPER VSBb
a) Remove the clear plastic cover by unscrewing the 4 corner plugs. Mount the unit above the sliding gate by using 4 screws or bolts (Not supplied) The cord loop of the Doorkeeper should be centred above the sliding gate, do not cut the knot off the cord, this knot is used to stop the gate when it opens Do not fit the batteries at this stage.
b) Open the sliding gate to a maximum of 50 cm and in this open position; fasten it to the pull cord. This fixes the sliding gate in the open position. The lower stop will be automatically "chosen" by doorkeeper.
c) Fit the 4 AA batteries (supplied) into the holder, carefully ensuring the correct polarity.
The blue wire should be connected to pin 1A (blue spot) and the red wire to pin 2A (red spot)
d) Refit the clear plastic cover. If you are fitting a timer refit the cover later.
INDOOR KEEPER VSBbi: To be installed inside, or where there is restricted daylight.
a) Remove the clear plastic cover by unscrewing the 4 corner plugs.
The lower stop will be automatically "chosen" by the doorkeeper.
C) Install the outsidelight sensor bulb (long grey cable with bulb sensor) in a submerged manner in an outside wall and seal it by silicone compound.
Fit the outsidelight sensor cable onto the pins 5 and 6 of the doorkeeper
d) Fit the 4 AA batteries (supplied) into the holder, carefully ensuring the correct polarity.
The blue wire should be connected to pin 1A (blue spot) and the red wire to pin 2A (red spot)
e) Refit the clear plastic cover. If you are fitting a timer refit the cover later.
Functionality test. Fully darken the Doorkeeper (which is hardly possible in sunlight) or the outsidelight sensor of Indoor Doorkeeper or close it by actuating the timer or bridge pins 3 and 4 of the Doorkeeper by means of a screwdriver so that the sliding gate is lowered until it reaches the bottom and switches off. After about 10 seconds the sliding gate is opened. Do not move or hold any part of the doorkeeper during this test.
Varying the Light sensitivity. The adjuster (above the pins 5 and 6 , "slot marked with arrow') has been set in such a way that the sliding gate is closed relatively early. If it is still too bright for closing at this time, turn the controller clockwise. Check the adjustment later and readjust the controller anticlockwise, if necessary. Shield your Doorkeeper from artificial lighting sources!
BATTERYPOWERED TIMER BS.
a) Remove the clear plastic cover by unscrewing the 4 corner plugs. Mount the unit inside with the cable entry facing downward. The timer should be near enough to the Doorkeeper so that the grey cable supplied can be connected.
b) For setting the actual time, turn the clock face clockwise to line up with the arrow. The closing period set at the factory is 2400 to 0800 hours. The closing time can be seen from the tappets projecting to the outside. The doorkeeper will open at 8.00 am and will close when it becomes dark. This mode of operation eliminates the necessity of constant readjustment of the closing time. Beyond the closing period the twilight switch is activated, i.e. it will close the contact at nightfall.
c) Connect the timer to the doorkeeper, by the twin grey cable supplied. Pins 3 and 4 on the timer need to be connected to pins 3 and 4 on the Doorkeeper.
d) Fit the battery (supplied) into the holder, carefully ensuring the correct polarity.
e) Refit the clear plastic cover.
If the system is intended to be controlled ONLY by means of the timer, it is necessary to connect the pins 5 and 6 in the Doorkeeper with each other, using the short single wire supplied. Connecting these two pins will bypass the light sensor.
Pull cord. After some years of operation, it may happen that the pull cord breaks. Check the condition of the pull cord at certain intervals. For replacing the pull cord, close the automatic device, "draw out' the complete cord, switch off the device and replace with fishingline of 0.45 mm dia., soft design, by following the same procedure. Then switch on the device, while not pulling at the cord, but wait until the cord is drawn in. Now lightly hold the cord and guide it. We disclaim any warranty for pull cord broken and its consequences. The pull cord will have a service life of 4 to 10 years or more. When re-threading the cord please ensure it follows the pre-printed route marked on the circuit board, otherwise the Doorkeeper will not work, or will only open or close.
Maintenance instructions. Do not lubricate the pull cord with oil or grease. Apply a very small quantity of spray grease to the bearing bolts of the plastic gears if they should generate severe noise.
Technical data:
Operating voltage: 6 to 12 V d.c.

Minimum sliding gate weight: 200 g (in case of weights below 200 g, a closing operation is not possible)
Maximum stroke length: 50 cm, automatic adjustment
Delay: About 10 seconds for opening and about 1 second for closing, thus the device is insensitive to lightning stroke.
Batteries: LR 6, Mignon, only alkaline version (the latter version has a twofold capacity, compared with, Super" batteries
